Create a striking art quilt - one step at a time
Inspired by Australian flora, Flowering Gum is one of my most-loved quilt patterns and has been made by quilters around the world.
While the finished quilt looks intricate, the process is broken into manageable blocks so you can work through it step by step with confidence.
What you'll achieve
By the end of this project, you’ll have:
- A finished quilt you’ll be proud to display
- Greater confidence working with curved seams
- A deeper understanding of the piecework process
- A calmer, more enjoyable approach to quiltmaking
And perhaps most importantly…
You’ll realise you are capable of more than you thought.
Never made a quilt like this before?
Many quilters feel intimidated by organic shapes and curved piecing at first.
That’s completely normal.
This pattern is designed to guide you through the process in a clear, structured way so you can focus on one step at a time.
👉 You do not need to “figure it out yourself.”
Is this pattern suitable for beginners?
Confident beginners can absolutely make this quilt. Many students begin with little or no experience with curved piecing. If you would like more support in the form of detailed video lessons, sign up for my Creative Piecework online course.
What if I make mistakes?
This process is very forgiving. Quiltmaking is built piece by piece, and imperfections are part of the handmade beauty of the final work.
Do I need to match the exact fabrics shown?
Not at all. I include fabric guidance, but many quilters enjoy interpreting the design in their own colours and style.
How is this different from a traditional quilt pattern?
My patterns use a process-led approach with organic shapes and full-size templates, creating a more artistic and painterly result.
